Primary Football League

The Leicester primary leagues originated as an inter-school football competition organised and hosted by the Leicester City Primary Schools Football Association. At the beginning of the 2022/23 academic year, Inspire Together took over the coordination of the league to ensure sustainability as the association, made up of dedicated volunteers working in schools, did not have the capacity to continue with what had developed into a major undertaking with 50+ schools involved.

The 2022/23 season was the first in which schools were asked to compete with both boys' and girls' teams as a condition of entry to the league. As a result we welcomed 62 boys' and 58 girls' teams of year 5&6 pupils from 55 schools. That number has risen this year to 63 boys' & 61 girls' teams in 2023/24, with scope to increase these numbers in the coming years! Over 1,300 year 5 & 6 boys and girls from across Leicester schools have taken part in the Inspire Together Primary Football League competition over a single academic year. Each year the leagues culminate in a Finals Day Showcase Event that welcomes the best teams from across Leicester. At these events we award the Winner's Cup to the Leicester champions for the Division 1 boys & girls, and the Winner's Plate to the Division 2 boys & girls competition winners.
