Moving Schools Challenger
This programme was devised by the Youth Sport Trust International team and is a European wide programme.
At the heart of the programme is a drive to increase daily activity in young people, but importantly in spreading the message that physical activity can be:
- Done in small manageable chunks,
- Doesn’t have to be sport - Moving your body is the important thing!
- Adds up over time to be an important part of a healthy life.
The programme works very simply, schools will log your activity on a monthly basis, we will be providing a wallchart for classrooms, on this wallchart students will be able to log their activity, the programme records this in their own measure ‘healthy kilometres’.
The way Healthy kilometres are logged for your young people is as follows:
Every 15 active minutes = 1 healthy Kilometre. On the wall chart simply add a tally mark for each student as they complete any physical activity lasting for fifteen minutes, if they do 30 minutes mark 2k – 2 tally marks, 45 minutes 3 tally marks and so on! It’s as easy as that.
There will also be a range of additional activities that we will let you know about based around monthly themes and these will carry bonus healthy kilometres so look out for those.
